grizzley cline

this is grizzley cline. we got him in 1994 and he recently passed away on april 16th. he was the sweetest of our pomeranians (wolfie was the queen bee, grizzley - the sweetie, bear - the princess, moose - the class clown, cubby - the one with ADD, and squirrel, who might actually tie grizzley for sweetest). he was always distinguishable because he was a toy pomeranian, so even smaller than normal, and the fur on his chin was darker so he always looked like he was smiling. i remember going with my mom to pick him up from his breeder - i guess you would call him the runt of his litter, although i don't remember if he technically was. he was in a fence and i remember a group of puppies clambering to get our attention. i'm sure grizzley was joining in but he was more demure about it. he just stood against the fence and looked at us sweetly. something about him drew us to him, because my next memory is riding in the middle seat of our old van, talking to grizzley as he sat in an open box we'd brought along for his trip home. he was scared and shaking, and i remember saying, "it's okay, puppy. don't be scared." my next memory of grizzley is immediately deciding that he and wolfie were to be married and have lots of puppies (which they did). in his latter years he became my nana's best pal. unfortunately he didn't age well, but i'm happy that since i left home, and now, when i think of grizzley, i think of his younger, healthy self. rest in peace, little grizzley. i'll miss you.

this is what i want more than anything

the fever is back

guys, i don't know what to do. my puppy fever is back in full-swing. my brain took, i'd say, a 2 week vacation from puppy fever, and it's much worse this time around. for the longest time, i've had my little heart set on a havaton, but i found a fierce competitor today in the form of a biton (bichon frise + coton de tulear). they're also a little harder to find than other hybrids, but i did happen to stumble upon this fluffball. why she is the only puppy left from that litter beats me; she's hands-down the cutest. i especially love that she's a little wall-eyed. for some reason i really love it when dogs are. one my dogs at home, bear (hey bear!), has eyes like that.

anyway, as soon as i saw that photo, i emailed the breeder asking about availability. turns out chantel (ummmm LUCY; chantel is a terrible puppy name) is, as i said, the only pup left in that litter. the breeder said that she has the best fur of the lot, and she's her personal favorite. maybe she was just saying that, but i believe her. my heart jumped out of my chest until i read further down in my email and discovered that my little fluffy baby would cost me a pretty penny. $1450 to be exact. plus shipping to new york.

my search/dreaming/fever continues...

well, well, well... don't mind if i do

lance's sister sent these two websites to him: and i like burgers, and i like grilled cheese. and i like really weird combinations of food/condiments (soy sauce in my eggs, ketchup & mayo mixed together on fries, etc.) god bless the wisconsin milk marketing board. i don't know their previous work, but surely they've outdone themselves. and with the help of jenna fischer and patrick warburton, no less. bravo for cheese! momma like.

mercury retrograde

this might help explain the day i had yesterday.

the biggest loser

last night i came home and amy was watching the biggest loser. i joined her and nonchalantly ate one of caroline's amazing homemade chocolate chip cookies and washed it down with half a pint of ben & jerry's coffee heath bar crunch.

suck it, jillian michaels.

at least he's honest
